Illustration Friday - Forward

© Kelly Gatchell Hartley 2012

How rapidly time urges his flight; sometimes as a relentless, unsparing destroyer; but oftener as a swift-winged and beautiful angel; changing, yet not taking away this world's blessings: making our past sorrows look dim in the distance; opening many flowers of pleasure on our way, and gradually ripening our souls for the great eternity.

Welcome to 2012

2012 is upon us already...how fast the year goes. I have a few projects in the pipeline which I look foward to sharing with you as they progress.

So what does and arty person do when they need a rest from their paintbrushes /pens /computer?
Well I like to get creative with other materials and enjoy the opportunity to just play.....

I have been messing around with the sewing machine and  recycled materials making little monsters and owls. I have also been playing with clay -making wall plaques alongside the pieces I am using in my guitar etc art. And every now and then I like to do a mosaic. This one hangs proudly outside my studio.

Melbourne Street Art

I always enjoy the latest Street Art along the laneways in the city. I wanted to share with you a few of my favourates.

The skateboards are from the exhibition 'Board' at NGV Studio in the Ian Potter Centre. If you get the chance to check it out the exhibition runs till 5 Feb.

Sketchbook Finished for 2012 World Tour

Horrah, my sketchbook is finished and ready to send to the New York in preparation for travelling around America, before it wings its way back here for the Melbourne Exhibition.

If you would like to know more about the sketchbook project heres the link:
http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject2012.

The Process:
I have taken out all the original paper from the sketchbook. It has been replaced with pastel paper, which I found worked better when using watercolours/paint/collage etc.
For this book I decided to do a few larger pictures instead of a lot of smaller ones, so designed it so the pages could be folded out.
I have used a variety of styles and mediums in this sketchbook as I have used it as a chance to play.

'TIME TRAVELLER' COVER: Pen and ink

TIMES FLIES: (3 pages) Acrylic, permanent marker, pen, tissue paper, collage

MEMORIES OF TIME WELL TRAVELLED: (5 pages) Pen, ink, watercolour
TIME KEEPS ON TICKING.... : (4 pages) Pen, permanent marker, acrylic, collage

I loved my cover image so much I have converted it into a t shirt design.
Styles available: mens, women and hoodies in a variety of colours.
